Born in Paris, Laure Albin-Guillot (1879-1962) studied drawing and painting before becoming interested in photography. She began her career photographing microscopic specimens for her husband, who was a researcher. Later, this work inspired her famous Micrographie décoratives. It is said that decorative screens based on her Micrographie décoratives donned the SS Normandie when it launched in 1935. Albin-Guillot was known for her technical mastery of the medium and often use of pictorial elements. Her work was widely exhibited and published from the late 1920 through the 1940s.
