BIOGRAPHY
Born in Paris, Laure Albin-Guillot (1879-1962) studied drawing and painting before becoming interested in photography. She began her career photographing microscopic specimens for her husband, who was a researcher. Later, this work inspired her famous Micrographie décoratives. It is said that decorative screens based on her Micrographie décoratives donned the SS Normandie when it launched in 1935. Albin-Guillot was known for her technical mastery of the medium and often use of pictorial elements. Her work was widely exhibited and published from the late 1920 through the 1940s. The Jeu de Paume in Paris presented Laure Alibin Guillot (1989-1962), The Question of Classicism from February 26–May 12, 2013.
